What do I need to teach English overseas?

Im very interested in teaching English overseas, preferably in eastern Europe or the middle east. I heard the only requirement is basically to be a native speaker of english. Ive done some research, and Im finding lots of conflicting information. A friend of mine taught in japan, and she is a complete twit so I figure it cant be too hard to find a job? What kinds of qualifications do I need?
